Designer Statement

Printmaker, this is what I am, I was one of these before I became a designer, and I’m always going to be one of these as long as I make things. Designer, this is what I am, what I went to school for, and how I generally categorize myself, I want to do all the things, so I call myself a Designer. Thing-maker, this is what I am now, I want to do everything, but I cant be called everything, so I will always be a Thing-maker.

Designer Beliefs

Design is everything. Design, like matter takes role as the building blocks of our reality. Nature designed the canvas of our reality; the aesthetics, the physical feelings, and the emotional response perceived by us from this reality has in turn made an imprint on modern humans. The perception of this reality invokes specific actions, responses and new characteristics out of human kind. The nature we know of designed us, and we have been adding and subtracting to this nature for thousands of years to invoke new responses, new aesthetics, and new experiences for other humans. We call this balancing act of adding and subtracting matter, image, pigment, texture and objects, design. It is our job as modern humans and specifically designers, to build on top of this reality with discipline and respect. Designers must add and subtract to our precious little canvas in the cosmos in the favor of aesthetics, experience, and emotional response that continue to project awe into human kind while destroying as little of the original canvas as possible.
